If you happen to have any suggestions for walking-friendly neighborhoods (possibly near parks or coffee shops/restaurants/gyms) with affordable but safe rentals for one person, I'd love to hear recommendations. Probably an efficiency, studio, or 1 BR type set up. I prefer private or small-operation landlords to "corporate apt. complex" type places. Modest, small, and simple are all OK -- I live simply. I am more about convenience to Ft. Detrick/FCC area (possibly on a bus line or bike route), safety and quiet.
What are reasonable rental ranges I would expect for those areas and types of rentals? I am considering a good job offer in Frederick but would be coming off four years at a hardship post, so still need budget-friendly housing.
Thanks for any tips anyone can give!

There are a couple of small houses for rent in my neighborhood. I am near Baker Park, but far enough away that things are cheaper. Next walk we take, I'll write down the numbers of the houses for rent and you can call. You can walk to Fitness First on Prospect Blvd. from here as well as the Rec Center in Baker Park. There are also about four other parks nearby. You can walk to downtown and to Hood from here. You'd have to bike to Ft. Detrick and FCC would be a bit of a haul, but you could bike it.
