I am near Baker Park, but far enough away that things are cheaper. Next walk we take, I'll write down the numbers of the houses for rent and you can call. You can walk to Fitness First on Prospect Blvd. from here as well as the Rec Center in Baker Park. There are also about four other parks nearby. You can walk to downtown and to Hood from here. You'd have to bike to Ft. Detrick and FCC would be a bit of a haul, but you could bike it.

Re: Massage?

Check out www.experiencemassagetherapy.com-- two young women own it, and are among the best practioners I've ever worked with. Their prices are well below market-- $70-$75 I believe for an hour massage, and they accept 1/2 hour appts, too. You won't be disappointed!

Re: getting to the airport

OH yes - nothing will be inexpensive. We don't exactly have public transportation that goes East of Frederick.

But... in case you drive to BWI.... we have found that the BEST place to park is in either the blue Fast Park Lot on W. Nursery or in the red Fast Park Lot on Elkridge Landing. Usually you have to be a frequent parker to use the red lot (it's about 1/2 mile closer) - but either lot is fantastic. The shuttle picks you up AT YOUR CAR, helps you with your luggage and when they take you back from the airport to the lot.... they take you TO YOUR CAR! No waiting at shuttle stops and lugging your bags down long aisles in the rain, snow, heat...

Plus if you go to their online site, you can print out a discount coupon that allows you to park for under $7/day. If you sign up for a free frequent parker card - you don't have to print out the coupon - you automatically get the cheaper rate. http://www.airportfastpark.com/main/baltimore.aspx

Oh....and when you leave the lot - they give you a free icy cold bottle of water - one for everyone in your car.

Once I discovered it, I NEVER used the airport shuttle again... I LOVE Fast Park. (Can you tell?)

Re: Proof Reopening

Not too smart for the new owners to paper the windows, throw up a CLOSED sign, then wait a full week to post a second "re-opening soon" sign. There is a cool bronze drinking fountain for people and for dogs along the creek, but it is a little out of the way. But I guess we have to start somewhere. The project, other than a few minor bits of vandalism, did prove that a large scale temporary public art project was do-able in Frederick (as opposed to the occasional more or less permanent installation like the dreaming, the community bridge or the gear spire). The challenge now is to come up with a public art project that's a bit more, well, challenging...

Re: Keys and Balls: Public Art in Frederick

I'd like to see more sculpture along the Carroll Creek Linear Park. Personally, I'd go anywhere in downtown Frederick over Friday's!! :-) Brewer's Alley has a pretty varied menu from pizza and sandwiches to dinners. Firestone's is nice especially if you get one of the tables in the window upstairs. If you like Mexican/Spanish food, try Cacique. All of these places are right on Market St. I'm sure others will have more suggestions.

Happy Birthday!!

Re: getting to the airport

Thx, I did check out the Airport Xpress link. It's next to Dollar Tree on Jefferson St. Go to http://www.frederickschoolofcosmetology.com/cli... for clinic hours, services and prices. They do more than hair - nails, facials, etc. Be prepared for your appointment to take 2-3 times longer than it would at a salon, because the stylists are students, and they go very slowly and carefully. Remember - they're being graded on the results, so they want you to be pleased with their work.

Re: affordable acupuncture

Thanks for the PR, clinic friends! The suggested sliding scale is $15 - $35. I have a box on the wall, allowing you to pay what you can afford so that you receive acupuncture often enough to get better and stay better.

I want to point-out that Fred Wolfson also provides low-cost acupuncture for a flat rate of $38 in Frederick and Thurmont. His services are conducted in private treatment rooms (www.HealWithAcupuncture.com).

No affordable health care discussion would be complete without mentioning John Hagemann's fabulous chiropractic services in Thurmont (www.CenterOfLife.us). John has a box on the wall in which you place your fee for his service; his suggested sliding scale is $20 - $30.

Rose Sincevich at the Center of the Four Winds Studio in Frederick also offers yoga and body movement classes on seva basis. "The practice of seva is Love in action, selfless service, with no expectations." Rose has a box in her waiting area that you place your donation for her services. They have different plans (single, family etc...) and I've heard they are relatively expensive. They also have a lot more to offer with the pools and excellent facilities.

The Talley Rec Center is a very good bargain, especially for city residents.
