I'll have to look up jazz/funk fusion. My favorite jazz is West Coast cool -- Dave Brubeck, the MJQ, Jacques Loussier, etc.

Re: Does anyone else like classical music, jazz, good wine and food, and exploring museums and other interesting things?

Actually, we are doing a get-together for the Alive@Five show on June 26th. The band is a jazz/funk fusion band, not sure if that floats your boat but it should be a good time! Click on the "Go to blog" button at the top of this page and read the June events post for more info. Hope to see you there!

Re: Does anyone else like classical music, jazz, good wine and food, and exploring museums and other interesting things?

That should work even better! And I love your idea of having a FredMdOL gettogether for a jazz night. Just let me know when and where!

Re: Does anyone else like classical music, jazz, good wine and food, and exploring museums and other interesting things?

Wow, I love these sorts of things, but don't do them as much as I'd like to. I often drag my husband to such things, but he prefers me to go with the ladies. ;-P I'll drop him off at the movie theatre! (He does love classical music and jazz, but not as much as I do.)

Just a plug for my studio- on June 1st, I'm hosting an open studio from 6pm- whenever. I have a sculpture studio beneath the Blue Elephant at 4 West 5th Street. Come say HELLO and introduce yourself. I know lots of fun artist-type folks who enjoy this sort of thing!

Speaking of 611- has anyone been there? I am curious about it. I know a jazz musician in town and he said that sometimes they have faboo musicians and sometimes they are terrible, so you have to go several times to get a feel for it. Let's have a FredMarylandOnlilne jazz date at 611! That could be fun.

Re: Does anyone else like classical music, jazz, good wine and food, and exploring museums and other interesting things?

Darren:

I am on so many EMail and Snail Mail mailing lists that it is impossible to remember them all.

EMail lists: Baltimore Classical Guitar Society (I am a member), Eric Byrd's Jazz List, An Die Musik (Classical and jazz venue in Baltimore), the Washington Balalaika Society, Cathedral Choral Society, Rick Whitehead (jazz)'s List, Janna Audey (voice)'s list.

Snail Mail lists: Kennedy Center, George Mason University performing arts, Mount Saint Mary's performing arts, McDaniel College performing arts, Strathmore Center for the Performing Arts, Clarice Smith Center for the Performing Arts, Baltimore Symphony, Fairfax Symphony.

There are TONS more...but those are the ones I can think of now. Also there are a couple of churches in Baltimore (Second Presbyterian, Catonsville Presbyterian, and St. Mary of the Assumption are the ones that come immediately to mind) whose Web sites I check frequently for their classical music concerts.

So........I am not in need of finding out where/when the concerts are. I just wish I could find someone else who likes to go to them!

Re: Does anyone else like classical music, jazz, good wine and food, and exploring museums and other interesting things?

BabyDoe,

You're right! I'd have sworn we did a post about the places to find Jazz in Frederick. I guess I never actually posted it. Here's what I've got handy as far as events (which I know you said you don't need) You might want to call the place and verify though, some of this info is 6 months old.

June 21 – 22
Jazzed In June Wine Festival @ Linganore Winecellars
Sat. 12-3 Sun. 3:30-6 The Paul Carr Quartet featuring Vocalist Sharon Clark
Sat. 3:30 - 6 Sun. 12-3 J Street Jumpers

Isabellas every other thursday from 9 to 11

Jackson’s restaurant – jazz and blues from 8 to 11 every Saturday

Cafe 611 - I'm not sure when, but they have great Jazz performers.

If you know of others, I'd love to hear about them. As far as finding people, I'd suggest doing a post on Fredrocks or the meetup group I suggested. This forum is good for frederick info in general, but those sites are specifically for people who like to go out and enjoy the nightlife.

Of course, I'm more than willing to meet up and check out a show/gallery too. Just let me know which one catches your eye and if I'm free I'll be there, probably with friends in tow.

Also, can I convince you to tell me about these mailing lists you're on? I've got a few for wine tastings, but I'd love some local jazz and classical related ones.

Re: Does anyone else like classical music, jazz, good wine and food, and exploring museums and other interesting things?

Darren:

Thanks for the links. I didn't see anything on either one of them about classical music, jazz, gallery openings, museums, or wine tastings. But I did see some interesting things...and I'll keep my eyes open in case any of the things I'm interested in show up. The real problem is: I don't need a source for finding these events. I am on every classical music and jazz, etc, mailing list in existence. I just want to find other people who share these interests.

Re: Does anyone else like classical music, jazz, good wine and food, and exploring museums and other interesting things?

You might want to join my site at www.Fredrocks.net and meet other people who enjoy similar activities. There's also the new Frederick Nightlife Meet Up group at http://nightlife.meetup.com/713/

Actually, search Meet Up for other groups in the area that do similar events.
